Description
Acadia National Park is located on the coast of Maine. Several lighthouses reside on Mount Desert Island and the several smaller islands included in the park. The original idea of creating the park is attributed to Charles Eliot and George Dorr. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it a national park in 1916. John D. Rockefeller was instrumental in the creation of carriage roads throughout the park. Acadia National Park is the oldest national park east of the Mississippi.
